What Do You Do When You HAVE to Take a Day Off?

This post comes because yesterday I was forced to do exactly that, take the day off and not really get anything done. I fell and bruised up my shoulder pretty good and typing just was not happening. So, what did I do? I emailed my clients and let them know what was going on and I took the rest of the day off.
Now, that sounds like a simple answer, but the truth is I am very fortunate to have some the BEST clients on the web. They were all more concerned with my well being than their transcripts and no one had a problem with the slight delay in delivery.
But, what if you have clients and projects with extremely tight deadlines to meet and you get hurt or sick? Do you have a backup plan?
This is where I think networking plays a very important role in online business. When you know other people in your field it’s easy to pick up the phone or send a tweet saying you need a little help and have them fill in for you when you have to be away from the computer.
I have a list of Virtual Assistants and Transcriptionists on my computer so that if at any time I have to be out for an extended period of time I can send them some work and keep everything moving along smoothly. I strongly recommend getting to know some trusted members of the community in your own niche and doing the same thing. It can be a lifesaver when you truly need it.
Last year when my husband was ill and in the hospital that list came to my rescue more than once. I was away from the computer for nearly a whole month, but I was still able to keep things active and get work done. Of course, keeping a great list of people that you can outsource to has many other benefits as well. You can plan around a vacation, take on extra projects, and free up some time to just enjoy yourself if you want to.
Get out there, network, and leverage the talents of others in your business.
Kind Regards,

| P.S. Speaking of backup plans, don’t forget to back up your important files for your business!
