When You Have the Kind of Day that Makes You Want a J.O.B.

Last week I had one of those days that made me wish I had a J.O.B. – that’s right, I confess. Fortunately those days don’t come as often as they used to, but they do come now and then and it’s enough to knock down all the momentum and motivation you’ve built up working on your business up to that point.
What did I do? First, I had a cup of coffee and took a deep breath. I still didn’t want to look at my computer screen, so I took a short walk to try and find my sanity. I sat back down, looked at my to do list, looked at my computer screen, and still wasn’t ready. I watched a movie with my husband and tried to relax. I started to feel a little bit better after that, but I still didn’t have my head in the game yet.
Why on earth am I telling you this stuff? Because these moments are very critical to the level of success you can reach in your business, no matter what kind of business it is. It was when I thought back to all the other times I wished I had a J.O.B. that I finally got my head out of the funk I was in. I know you’re over there waiting for me to make some sense, right?
I got frustrated with a website not working and wished I had a J.O.B., instead I found someone to help me fix it. I’ve had that website since 2001 and it’s decently popular.
I felt like I couldn’t do something and wished I had a J.O.B., instead I took a day off, came back and worked twice as hard to learn the skill I needed. I use that skill every day now.
Several of my websites were hacked and torn to bits and I wished I had a J.O.B., I slept on my decisions and in the morning decided it was just a good way to get a fresh clean slate and clean up the overall business. It was a great decision.
I had a rotten client and wished I had a J.O.B., instead of quitting I fired the client and moved on to do better things with awesome fantastic people online.
I thought I couldn’t fit in with the internet marketing crowd and wished I had a punch the clock J.O.B., instead I packed my suitcase and I went to NAMS in August of 2009. Incredibly fun and moved my business forward by huge leaps.
So, as I sat there last week momentarily wishing I had a J.O.B. I remembered all these things and I realized that these little moments are the moments that most people give up on their entrepreneurial dreams. They leave their vision in a box and go back to the clock punching workforce. Sometimes they’re happy about it, sometimes they’re not.
My husband once looked at me and said, “You’d only last a day back in that world….. and that’s a good thing.” He was right, it’s just not me out there and I’d be miserable.
When you have those moments that make you want to throw in the towel, give up, and run away in tears I encourage you to instead stop, take a deep breath, have a cup of coffee, go for a short walk to find your sanity, spend some time with your family and reflect on the reasons why you do whatever it is you do, the path you took to get to where you are, and the way you want things to be from that moment on. Then … take action and make it happen.
Kind Regards,

Did you write this after my chat with you on yahoo?! I think you took it all right out of my head cause last night I was ready to drop it all and go get a steady paycheck for sure. {{hugs}} to a kick butt partner and friend for backing me up in a time of business crisis
Now to go create some blog posts of my own about it

I agree with Val, it’s creepy the way you reach in and pull out those little moments from my head. Only the tiniest of details are different. The one that came closest to forcing me back into the corporate work-place? 107 sites were hacked at once.
My entire online portfolio was junk overnight. Like you though, I dug deep and found the courage to start over. And truthfully? I wouldn’t last in the corporate world. I’ve been out since ’91. I would no longer know HOW to play their games.
Thanks for sharing such an inspirational post. You made my day.

Oh my goodness 107 sites at one time – that’s enough to make you feel crazy for sure! I had a hard time with just a few getting hacked, so I think I would have had a panic attack first and then hopefully found my head to get things fixed.
