Rethinking My Business Card

I’ve got some conferences coming up that I’ll be going to and some travel with the kids this summer as well. I want to be prepared for anything that happens to come up. Awhile ago I had some nice business cards put together at Vista Print and I really loved the cards.
However, my main focus was being a VA at the time. That has sort of changed recently. I have been focusing more on PR, brand management, Twitter management, blogging, and diving into the world of affiliate marketing.
Like most changes this was brought about by a major change in our life. Back in November when my husband was ill and in the hospital I realized that I was depending a lot on the small trickle of affiliate marketing income I had coming in to keep me afloat because I wasn’t at my desk working on a daily basis.
It was a huge wake up call that I wanted, and needed a change in my business plan to continue on the path that I’m on. Until that moment I didn’t even realize that I wanted to do affiliate marketing. It had always just been a bit of a side interest that I looked at and dabbled around with.
Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Virtual Assistant! I love everything about it! I’ve met great clients and business contacts through being a VA and built lasting trustworthy relationships online. I love helping people manage their business and their websites. I love typing transcripts and creating reports that help people.
It’s always going to have a soft spot in my heart and I’m always going to be around to help people get started with their new online businesses and to grow the ones they have. It’s what you might call my passion.
Affiliate Marketing on the other hand is more of an obsession at the moment. I want to have that income trickling in on a regular basis and not have to think about it 24-7! With my husband and my son both scheduled for more surgery later this year, it’s the kind of piece of mind I want in my business right now. A change in the wind so to speak.
Over the past few months I’ve found myself on the other side of the outsourcing coin. I’ve been the one doing the outsourcing instead of the one getting the assignments. Fortunately, I’ve met so many wonderful contacts as a virtual assistant that I know exactly who to go when I need something! But, more about that later … back to the subject at hand, business cards!
I am considering having a new set of cards printed before I go hopping off on vacation and to conferences this year. But, I don’t know what to put on there. Obviously most of the information I used is fine as is. I could just remove the line that says Your Virtual Assistant … but then what would I put there? Does a business card really need a job description line on it?
I’m sure this will come up…. I’ve had a few people comment that I look angry all the time and I should change the picture. My husband actually chose that picture – it was his favorite pic of me from last year. Now that everyone says I look angry I’m considering changing that as well. The problem is people seem to say that about every picture of me -lol- I’m not angry, I promise! That’s actually practically smiling! You may now laugh at my “angry face” and then come back to give me your ideas!
What are your thoughts and ideas here? Any suggestions for my new cards?

WOW! I think I should have you design my next set of business cards!
Nah, I don’t think you look angry. I do have a question… are you going to be using the back of the card as well?

I agree that your photo does not look like you are happy. I think it conveys a somber mood. You are a dynamic person (all the things you do online are pretty amazing) and your photo should reflect that. I’d get a friend who is good with a camera and just go out and take shots all day under different situations and just be fun and natural and you’ll get a great one for your card. as far as info. I think that much looks squished. I’d also go with Moo cards they are awesome (business car size) and make an impression.

I love the cards, they are gorgeous, but I think a pic of you smiling would be much more inviting

Hi Loretta! Just now saw your tweet.
Your business card is pretty I think, but you do have the same issue as Michelle Obama. She’s not an angry person (so I’ve heard) but the way her stylist was plucking her eyebrows gave her an arched look and many people felt she came across as “looking angry.” I’m assuming that you like me, do not have a stylist nor do we need one (so there!). I like your pic but as Drew points out it isn’t saying what you wish it to say. In my opinion the colouring is reinforcing what could be construed as a somber or reflective (that’s what I see) mood.
I don’t really like big, cheesy smiles on anyone but children but if you do redo your pic you might consider a slightly warmer tone both in colour and in facial expression.
Best of luck to your son and hubby!

Thank you all for your comments on the business card. That image in the post is of my actual business card right now, the one I’m replacing. I’ve got a lot of ideas to work with here.
Drew, my oldest son is currently my photographer -lol- unless you’re coming over here to help out I’m not sure I know any photo-savvy folks nearby LOL
Once I get a new pic and think of something to include as a tagline or job title I’ll post again with the new design before I actually order it.
