One of the easiest ways to increase your audience or customer base is with a podcast. Sure, your website or blog is still how most people will find you online but a podcast will appeal to those customers who don’t have much time to browse your site. Giving your customers a choice between reading and hearing what you have to say is key to developing a loyal audience.

I KNOW you have lots to say being a work at home mom! Why do you think Twitter is so busy and why Facebook has millions of users? Why not take some of that energy and speak directly to your target market, using your own voice? No matter what your business – mom blogger, life coach, virtual assistant, ecommerce, speaker, author  – every mom has something to share and is capable of producing a podcast. Don’t be intimidated by the technology involved because it’s really not that complicated.

For those of you who are thinking, “What in the heck is a podcast?” the answer is very simple. A podcast is an audio file to which people can subscribe using an RSS feed. You know that little orange button that has become so visible on blogs? You click it and subscribe to that blog in your Google reader? The same is true of subscribing to a podcast. By clicking that orange RSS button for a podcast, you can see all the audio files (podcasts) produced either in your Google Reader or in iTunes.

I’m sure there are others out there thinking, “But I don’t want to have an internet radio show!” and I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to have a “show.” Rather than using the show format with guest interviews, try sharing some easy money-saving tips. Or time management tips. Or how to automate your business. Or SEO tips. Or your take on the political scene. Or…

The sky’s the limit when it comes to podcasting topics. Whatever your business entails, there is someone out there who wants to learn from you or be encouraged by you. You will also reach out to two subgroups of your market instead of limiting yourself to just one: those who love to read your website/blog and those who don’t have time to read but like to listen instead.

All you need to get started podcasting is an idea, a microphone, and your voice. So what are you waiting for?
