Creating a URL Redirect with a PHP Index File and Uploading it via FTP

Today we’re creating a URL redirect with a PHP index file. This is something that’s great to use if you’re referring to other products often and you want to give a url that’s easy to remember. In this example I’m showing you how I created my redirect for Traci Knoppe’s Beginner to Blogger e-course that I often recommend to people who are just getting into blogging and want to learn the ropes from start to finish.

As promised in the video, here’s a copy of the index.php file that you can save and use for creating your own redirects. >> click here to download index.php file << After you've saved this file, right click to open it with Notepad. Change http://www.TheDomainYouWanttoReach.com to the URL you want to redirect to. Save. Upload to your directory folder.

That's all there is. Fast and easy. Of course, this also works on the top level of a domain if you want www.yoursite.com to direct to another place on the web. You just skip the creation of a directory and upload it right to the top level.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here on the blog or send me an email.

Have a great day!
Loretta

  1. Thanks Loretta! This is really helpful. I have all the redirects in the htaccess. I am going to try this!

  2. I have done redirects a few different ways, I’ve htaccess, HTML files, and this has just ended up being my favorite way in the end.

  3. Thanks sooo much Loretta, this is the easy way to do a redirect. I have benefited a lot from this.
    So easy and direct.
Before I was using filezilla and to know I could use what I already have is so eye opening.
    Thanks,
    Grace
