What’s In a Name? Naming Your Blog, Application, Software, or other web goodness

I had an interesting conversation this morning on Twitter about an application name, and it really got me thinking about how we name our websites, our reports, our applications, our plugins etc…
If you’re on Twitter, you may have heard about the new Tweet Glide desktop twittering application. I’ve been hearing a lot over the past few days and every time I hear it or see it, well, the things I think probably aren’t very Twitter-like.
I couldn’t help but send out this tweet this morning …..
… and my Twitter friends quickly let me know that I am not alone!
Well, if nothing else it’s good to know I’m not the only one, and this is just a small sampling of people that had that initial thought.
Now, I’m not saying that I think Tweet Glide was inappropriately named, I’m just saying that the name made other things come to mind first and that’s something to consider and think about when naming new apps, websites, plugins, etc….
Of course, this is mostly happening right now because Tweet Glide something completely new and I’m sure the giggling will subside after we’ve all seen the things it can do under the surface. I have not tried the application out yet myself, but I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing good things about it in the future.

I was so glad you brought that up this morning! I had totally been thinking that every time someone mentioned it, but, was too chicken to say it! LOL!
