Twitter tools is a plugin available from Alex King. Just like all Alex King’s plugins Twitter Tools is easy to install and set up. It only took me a few seconds and I had this blog linked right into my twitter account. Now when I post something new and update will automatically go to my twitter page and tweet out to all my followers!

I’ll show you step by step how easy this was to do.

Go to Alex King’s plugin site and download Twitter Tools. As of today it is the second plugin on the list. Download Twitter Tools zip file by clicking the download link. Save it to your desktop or someplace easy to find.

Go to your desktop or folder where you saved the zip file. Right click with your mouse and select “Extract All.”
extract zipped plugin file

Now you have a non-zipped folder called Twitter Tools right on your desktop (or wherever you extracted to… I prefer to use the desktop to keep things simple.) Double click this folder to open it, or you can choose to check the box for “show extracted files” when doing the zipped file extract. Inside the new folder is another folder called twitter-tools. Double click this folder to open it also. Nice and easy, we’ve got the README file, which you should read, silly why did you think it was called that? And we’ve got our plugin file twitter-tools.php.

Time to upload into your plugins folder of your blog! You can use any uploading method you prefer. I’m going to ftp my file into my blog.
On the left is my ftp window, and on the right is the twitter-tools folder we just opened. I drag and drop the file twitter-tools.php right into the plugins folder. (Make sure you are in the plugins folder, to get there first go into the wp-content, then plugins.)

Login to your blog. Click the Plugins Tab for Plugin Management.

Scroll down to Twitter Tools which should now be in your list. Click activate. The plugin will now highlight across in green and be activated. You’ll notice where it says Configure your settings here.

You’ll want to click to go to that page to choose which options you want. You can click the link there, and for future reference its Under the Options tab from your dashboard, sub tab Twitter Tools. This is where you fill in your Twitter login information and choose if you want to send messages from Twitter to your blog, or from your blog to twitter, or both!

Okay, now that we’ve gotten this far, let’s make a little tweak or two. By default when the tool tweets it will say “New Blog Post:“, as you can see here on my test post to tweet.

You can change this introduction if you would like. Don’t worry it’s not that tough to change! Go back to your Plugins tab, subtab Plugin Editor, and select Twitter Tools from the list on the right hand side.

Okay. Don’t get all nervous on me. We’re just going to change three words. But first you have to find them! The easiest way to do that is to use your search bar on your browser. Type in New blog post and then select the highlighting icon on your toolbar. You’ll have to scroll down the page a bit, but it will be easy to spot with all three words highlighted.

Now you just change those to whatever you want your tweets to say. In this case I am changing mine so it will say New at Easy Wahm:

That’s all, we’re all done! Happy blogging and tweeting!!
