Getting Over the Hump and Setting Goals for the New Year

It’s that time of year where we look back at the year that’s gone by and decide what we want to do in the year yet to come. One of my goals for 2009 was to add more affiliate marketing into my income efforts, and I’ve been doing that. I paid attention, went to NAMS, learned a few things, and now I’m working on implementing and doing those things.
It’s hard to believe that an entire year has gone by already. Last year I was just happy to have my husband home from the hospital and with us for the new year. It seems like it’s only been a few months since that all happened and I set my goals for 2009.
Honestly, I fell short on a few things for 2009 that I wanted to do, like lose a few pounds, and go out on dates with my husband more often. I didn’t lose as many pounds as I wanted, and I probably gained a few, and I certainly could use some more time out and about enjoying life. A few years ago after our summer trip to Disney we set the goal to take the kids to Disney in 2009 for Christmas. That didn’t happen this year, and things sort of got all topsy-turvy on us.
Why am I telling you about the goals I missed? Because they’re just as important as the goals I achieved. So, let’s look at the goals I achieved this year as well.
I went to a live affiliate marketing event. (NAMS) I hung out in person with other online marketers and had a great time and came up with some great ideas. I even found new ways to use my content and reach my audience in a better way.
I learned a lot about affiliate marketing in 2009 and I set up a few different things that I’m hopeful will bring me income over time. I’m not a super affiliate yet, but I’m learning and more importantly I’m starting to implement the things that I’ve been learning.
I met my income goals more often than I fell short of them. I set up a spread sheet to track my income, how much, where it’s coming from, etc… More months end with a big green happy face to mark that I met my goal than those that don’t. That encourages me to keep going and lets me know that I’m doing something right. In fact, I just added my goals to that spreadsheet for January through August of 2010.
I cleaned out a lot of my internet clutter. I was turning into a domain name hoarder there at the beginning of 2009. I took stock, cut the fat, and started to focus on the projects that were most important to me. Speaking of….
I found my focus. Then I lost it again, but then I found it again. Okay, so I’m still really working on this one, but I think I’ve got a good handle on it these days. I’m not wandering around the internet like a lost puppy wondering what to do next and clicking on all the shiny objects. I’ve gained a sense of focus and I’m getting better at planning my projects and taking them inn the right direction.
I’m not quite done setting my goals for the new year yet. I’ve been looking at them this week and jotting some things down in my notebook, but I haven’t firmly decided my plans as of yet. I have a general idea of where I want my income and my lifestyle to be by the end of 2010, and I’ve got that all written out, but I need to drill down and look at the individual steps to get to that goal.
So, what are your goals for 2010? Are you ready to make this the best year it can be for your internet business? Do you need any help getting there? Put it out there, get it in writing, and start working towards the end of the path. You’ll be there before you know it.

I wish you all the best in 2010 Loretta.
I don’t set long term goals. I focus on my definite major purpose in the present and let it unfold. It’s like focusing on the end result constantly and being the person who’ll attain that end result constantly.
Mentally taxing, but the rewards have been worth it.

It is good to look at what we haven’t done in the past. We know that we learn from our mistakes. I don’t make resolutions, but goals to work towards like you. I want to continue to learn to be a better blogger, spend more time with my family and learn more about photography.
